Meet: Katie Grimes
From water safety to fierce competitor
Katie grew up on the pool deck with her two older brothers being swimmers. Living in Las Vegas, they were always around pools in the summer. What started out as water safety turned into a competitive swimming career. As she progressed through the swimming levels, her passion for the sport grew more and more.
Seeing how successful her brothers were in pool and open water, she was inspired and wanted to be just like them. Going to watch her older brother compete at the 2016 Olympic Team Trials lit a fire for Katie. From that point forward there was nothing that was going to stop her from qualifying for the Olympics.
A race for the ages
Flash-forward to 2021, Katie competed in her first ever Olympic Trials. With the dream of the Olympics in the back of her mind, she endured the ups and downs of trials. Her last race was the 800m Freestyle and with a surprise to everyone, she qualified for the Olympics touching second behind Katie Ledecky.
Trust in the process
Today Katie is one of the most exciting athletes to follow in Olympic sports. When she is not breaking records in the pool, Katie enjoys her downtime back home in Vegas. Her hobbies include listening to music, old cars (she drives a 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser), shopping and spending time with her family.
